Elm Tree concert, Round Barn Rendezvous coming up in Arcadia

Singer-songwriter T.Z. Wright

ARCADIA – Singer-songwriter T.Z. Wright will present the Elm Tree Concert on Sunday, June 6, and the monthly Round Barn Rendezvous jam session is scheduled for Sunday, June 13, at the Arcadia Round Barn.

The Elm Tree Concert starts at 1 p.m. beneath the giant elm tree on the north side of the barn, where accessible parking is provided. Visitors can bring a lawn chair or sit at the picnic tables. Admission is free to all concerts at the barn, but donations are accepted.

Wright is a multi-instrumentalist who has been a member of the Woody Guthrie Festival house band since 2003. He also plays with the Norman-based groups The Shambles and The Sunday Flyers. In the 1970s, he led the first house band at The Motherlode in Red River, N.M.

Local musicians are invited to bring their instruments and join the Rendezvous from noon to 4 p.m. every second Sunday of the month. The jam session is led by singer-songwriter Joe Baxter, who coordinates the music at the barn.

“The jam session is my original musical endeavor at the barn, and we’ve been holding it for more than 10 years now,” Baxter said. “Some of our jammers have gone on to become headline acts at our weekend concerts.”

The Round Barn is located six miles east of Interstate 35 on historic Route 66. The museum is open every day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the Round Barn Ramblers house band performs every Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
