ARCADIA – RSVP of Central Oklahoma’s KnitServe program will hold a Craft-In from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, at the Arcadia Round Barn.

KnitServe, which was launched in April, is open to adults across Oklahoma County who are interested in knitting or crocheting items to support the work of local nonprofits. KnitServe volunteers will be creating items to donate during their time at the Round Barn.

Organizations thatcurrently partner with KnitServe to receive and distribute items that volunteerscreate include YWCA,Infant Crisis Services and City Care – and the list is growing, according to Andrea Post, outreach coordinator for the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Central Oklahoma (RSVP).

Handcrafters of all skill levels are welcome to attend KnitServe workshops, Craft-Ins and other events; both coaching and learning are encouraged. People who attend the Craft-In at the Arcadia Round Barn can bring their supplies and join the knitters and crocheters, or attend simply to learn more about the KnitServe program.

New KnitServe participants can bring their own tools and supplies such as yarn, crochet hooks, knitting needles and stitch markers. Or, thanks to a grant from St. Matthew United Methodist Church in Midwest City, new members can receive supplies to help get started.

The Craft-In will be part of an open house at the Arcadia Round Barn where current and potential RSVP volunteers are invited to learn about volunteering at the barn. Live music will be provided, and an ice cream social with current Round Barn volunteers will begin at 11 a.m. The open house will continue through 1 p.m. The Round Barn will be open for visitors as usual on June 25, which will allow potential volunteers to meet people from across the world who travel Route 66 and visit the barn every day.

In addition to special events such as the one at the Arcadia Round Barn, RSVP hosts KnitServe Wednesdays, where KnitServe volunteers can craft together on the second Wednesday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon in the Will Rogers Gardens Exhibition Center building. Upcoming dates are June 12, July 10 and Aug. 14.
