SUMMARY:GYPSY TWANG to present Elm Tree Concert on MAY 3rd
DESCRIPTION:Tulsa singer-songwriters GYPSY TWANG will present an Elm Tree concert on Sunday\, May 3rd\, at the Arcadia Round Barn. The concert will be from 1 to 3 p.m. beneath the shade of the giant elm tree on the north side of the barn. \n\n\n\nGypsy Twang was established in May of 2009. Husband and wife Steve and Sarah Huhn had both done a few other things musically\, but had always wanted to form a band together. We rounded up a couple of friends to play a gig with us\, and the next thing we knew we were booking more dates and thinking up a name for the band (“Gypsy Twang” is a nod to both Bob Childers and Country & Western music). \n\n\n\nOur unique brand of music includes original\, traditional\, singer/songwriter\, and vintage country tunes.  As we’ve progressed\, we have found ourselves leaning more and more towards original tunes penned by John and Sarah as well as dipping in to our traditional country and Red Dirt roots.  Steve’s dad was a boogie-woogie piano player\, and often invited friends to their home for jam sessions.  His taste ran to jazz and standards\, so that’s the music Steve grew up with.  Sarah’s dad\, on the other hand\, wasn’t a musician himself.  But he loved music\, and passed along his love of Country and Western music to her from an early age.  John is one of the best songwriters on the Red Dirt scene\, and has a heart for traditional country as well.  Frenchie plays all over the place\, and we consider ourselves lucky to be part of his band family! \n\n\n\nToday\, we perform Sarah’s and John’s original songs\, tunes written by fellow Okies\, country keepsakes\, alt-country\, Americana\, traditional and folk songs.  Current band members include Sarah Barker Huhn on lead vocals and guitar\, Steve Huhn on upright bass\, John Williams on vocals\, guitar\, harmonica and Kurt “Frenchie” Nielsen on mandolin and tenor guitar.  \n\n\n\nCome out and Hang with the Twang! \n\n\n\nAll concerts are free\, but donations are accepted for the maintenance of the barn\, which is located six miles east of Interstate 35 on historic Route 66. For more information about live music at the barn\, call Joe Baxter at 405-833-1350. \n\n\n\n\nPhoto by M Tim Blake\n\n\n\nPhoto by David Nowels

They perform original music and other tunes that cover a wide variety of styles. Their songs are perfected by seasoned professional musicians who love what they do! \n\n\n\nSome have called Terry Ware the undisputed professor emeritus of rock guitar in the state of Oklahoma. Brian Wilson is one of my favorite composers\, as is Jimmie Webb\, and Laura Nyro.” \n\n\n\nWare’s main guitars are a ’76 Telecaster\, plus a ’56 Strat\, ’56 Les Paul goldtop\, along with several vintage amps. \n\n\n\nIn 2024\, Rose State College created the documentary film “Ware the Buffalo Roams” (The Life and Times of Musician Terry Buffalo Ware) which has received high praise and several film awards. \n\n\n\nDo yourself a favor and check out this revered musician with his band The Sunday Flyers for a free rock n’ roll concert on Sunday\, Sept. 28th at the Arcadia Round Barn\, 107 OK-66 in Arcadia\, Oklahoma 73007.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Sunday Flyers  Concert Details \n\n\n\n\nWhere: Arcadia Round Barn\, six miles east of I-35 on Historic Route 66\n\n\n\nWhen: Sunday\, September 28 @ 1:00 p.m. to 3 p.m.\n\n\n\nAdmission: Free\, donations accepted to support the Round Barn\n\n\n\nSeating: Bring a lawn chair or use available picnic tables\n\n\n\n\nThe Arcadia Round Barn\, a beloved Route 66 landmark\, is operated by the nonprofit Arcadia Historical Society and staffed with dedicated volunteers. Weʼd love to see your smiling face! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIndividual Bios \n\n\n\nSarah Barker Huhn is an Oklahoma-born musician who makes her home in Tulsa. She fronts the band Gypsy Twang\, John and Sarah both sing\, play and write Okie songs with Gypsy soul\, drawing upon their respective family backgrounds and small town roots. A bit of a late bloomer\, she bought her first guitar at the age of forty\, started writing songs right away and found a home in the Oklahoma music community. These days youʼre just as likely to find her with a camera in her hands\, capturing photos of musicians and events around the state. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJohn Williams is perhaps best known in Red Dirt circles for his scorching blues harmonica skills. He taught himself to play aboard a Navy destroyer ship many moons ago and is a sought-after session harp player as well as playing live with several bands through the years up to the present \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSteve Huhn plays a 1939 Kay upright bass in Gypsy Twang. Steveʼs bass playing is the heartbeat of Gypsy Twang. Well-versed in music theory\, he never bats an eye when we decide to change keys\, has a savvy ear for arrangements and can ‘Nashville chartʼ a song like nobodyʼs business! Steve is as rock steady as the soulful beat he keeps on the bass. He is our foundation\, and without him there would be no band. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSponsored by The Arcadia Historical & Preservation Society

SUMMARY:Mary Battiata & Little Pink – Alt-Country and Americana with Rich Storytelling and a Twang-Folk-Pop Sound play JULY 13th ARCADIA
DESCRIPTION:Mary Battiata & Little Pink is the ongoing Alt-Country\, Country\, Americana\, Twang-Folk-Pop project of singer-songwriter Mary Battiata (pronounced Bah-tee-ah-ta – it’s Italian). Mary Battiata and Little Pink will perform at the Arcadia Round Barn’s Elm Tree concert on Sunday\, July 13th 2025 at 1 p.m. \n\n\n\nMary is a singer-songwriter and alt-Country bandleader who plays and tours from her home base in Northern Virginia. Ms Battiata has a fabulous voice and wraps it around some excellent lyrical content\, the quality of which rivals the writing of Rodney Crowell. \n\n\n\nMary was raised in the Maryland suburbs outside Washington DC\, when local radio was still playing hours of classic Country and vintage Bluegrass every day (thank you Eddie Stubbs!) She was singing and playing acoustic guitar by high school\, and began writing songs in the mid-1990s\, after returning from several years as a foreign correspondent (in East Africa and Eastern Europe).  \n\n\n\nShe formed her first alt-Country band in 1997\, inspired by the songwriters – local and touring – that she saw at her neighborhood music venue\, the newly hatched IOTA club\, where she played\, too. In 1999\, she formed Little Pink\, a capable and fluid lineup of top-tier players drawn from the DC and Baltimore Roots and Country scenes. The band’s name\, and its sound\, were inspired by The Band’s recording\, Music From Big Pink. \n\n\n\nBattiata’s influences include: Dolly Parton\, Hank Williams\, Hazel Dickens\, George Jones\, the Feelies\, Aftermath and Flowers\, to name a few. \n\n\n\n“Everything you most loved about Dolly and Rosanne is here\, with heart-tugging hooks that snag like spurs.” —Andrew Darlington\, RNR Magazine\, UK \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWho:      Mary Battiata and Little Pink\n\n\n\nWhen:    Sunday\, July 13th 2025\n\n\n\nTime:      1 p.m to 3 p.m.\n\n\n\nWhere:   Arcadia Round Barn on ROUTE 66\n\n\n\nAdmission:  FREE\, but donations are accepted for the upkeep of the Round Barn\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Arcadia Round Barn\, a beloved Route 66 landmark\, is operated by the nonprofit Arcadia Historical Society and staffed with dedicated volunteers. It is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. \n\n\n\nMary Battiata and her trio Little Pink will play an Elm Tree Concert at the Arcadia Round Barn on Sunday\, July 13th\, 2025 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

SUMMARY:Joe Baxter — Barn Music — Elm Tree Concerts
DESCRIPTION:JOE BAXTER is an excellent storyteller. That’s why he’s also prolific songwriter and performer. We get to hear Joe Baxter tell stories and sing songs on Sunday\, June 29th at 1 p.m. \n\n\n\nBaxter is a fourth-generation Okie; a proud descendent of original hard-scrabble homesteaders. He’s retired from doing any actual WORK\, but continues to perform as much as possible.  \n\n\n\nJoe has been knocking around the Oklahoma music scene for several decades. Known as a capable and copius songwriter\, Joe’s songs deal with Everyman’s Every Day. Love\, hate\, pain\, joy\, silly\, and serious. All of Joe’s followers\, friends\, and family have a “favorite” JB song.  A few of his songs have won awards. My personal favorite is “Romeo’s Girl.” \n\n\n\nThe discography spans thirty years\, and includes 11 all original albums from 1994’s “ Blue Tape” through 2023’s “ Interesting Times”. Joe’s songwriting mantra is “We record\, therefore we are! ” \n\n\n\nIn Joe Baxter’s own words\, he is: “A long-suffering\, little-known\, hometown\, pre-Americana\, redneck\, short-haired\, red-faced\, irreverent\, irresponsible\, quirkily well-read\, bombastic yet insightful\, mouth-breathing\, loud-laughing\, dog-loving\, nap-taking\, no-workin’\, fish-catching\, backroad-driving … Okie song writer.”    \n\n\n\nYou’ll find Baxter at the Round Barn 2-3 times a week\, often he plays with his friends Curt and Richard\, who play mandolin and fiddle. Together they are the Round Barn Ramblers. When Baxter was interviewed (by KFOR’s Galen Culver)\, Joe explained that “BARN MUSIC is a subgenre of OKIE NOIR.”  I loved that JB quote and I learned that Okie Noir is sub-genre created by Oklahoma’s best-selling auhor Faith Phillips.  \n\n\n\nLucky for the Round Barn\, Baxter also happens to be the Music Director. He’s responsible for recruiting professional musicians for dozens of FREE concerts at the Barn every year. “We’re so fortunate to have him\, Joe is a fantastic volunteeer in addition to being a dynamic songwriter and musician\,” said Linda Simonton\, President of Arcadia Historical & Preservation Society.  \n\n\n\nCheck out JOE BAXTER and the Lost Cause under the shade of the historic Elm tree\, outside of the 1898 Round Barn in Arcadia. You’ll be glad you did. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n•• JOE BAXTER Concert Details •• \n\n\n\n\nWHEN: Sunday\, June 29th @ 1 p.m.\n\n\n\nWHERE: The Arcadia Round Barn is located in Arcadia\, OK. 107 OK-66\, Arcadia\, OK  73007 •  Six miles east of Interstate 35 on Route 66.  \n\n\n\nADMISSION: FREE\, but donations for the upkeep of the Round Barn are appreciated\n\n\n\nEXTRAS: Bring a lawn chair in the back of the car\, or grab one of the picnic tables. SUMMARY:Miss Brown To You — Americana — Elm Tree Concerts
DESCRIPTION:Miss Brown To You will play incomparable cool jazz and Americana on Sunday\, May 25th \n\n\n\nJoin us on Sunday\, March 25 for an outdoor concert under the shade and cool breeze of the historic Elm tree on the grounds of the Round Barn in Arcadia\, Oklahoma. The band Miss Brown to You is a dynamic musical duo known for their soulful blend of jazz\, folk and blues. You’ll enjoy the incredible vocals of Mary Reynolds and the masterful multi-instrumentalist Louise Goldberg. Their music is a journey through rich melodies and heartfelt storytelling. \n\n\n\n“Louise Goldberg is a superb pianist\, whose deft and subtle playing is the perfect accompanist … I can’t think of anyone who interprets other great songwriter’s songs better than Mary Reynolds and Louise Goldberg. They can take a song that has been covered by the best and pull the strongest elements from all of them\, and then inhabit the song in such a way that it transcends all the others. They are that good!” —Scott Aycock\, KWGS Folk Salad \n\n\n\n“Mary Reynolds has the most beautiful voice in the world … her pipes ring like the bells of heaven.” —Thomas Conner\, Chicago Tribune.  Nashville writer John Hadley calls Louise “not only an astonishly accomplished musician\, multi-instrumentalist and performer\, she’s a gifted composer and song writer as well.” \n\n\n\n“It’s no secret that where Mary Reynolds & Louise Goldberg come from jazz\, blues and folk music have always shared equal space. Those influences are front and center on songs that allow Goldberg’s piano and Reynolds’ voice to shine. SUMMARY:The McKedys — Classic Country — Elm Tree Concerts
DESCRIPTION:ARCADIA\, OK—Are you a fan of country music? We’re talkin’ Traditional Country and Western Swing. The McKedy Band is a family band that has been making great music for years.  “We are passionate about country music and our performances have been a hit with audiences of all ages\,” said Mackynsie McKedy by phone. \n\n\n\nTheir unique sound comes from a father-daughter-son trio with father\, Byron McKedy\, on steel guitar & vocals\, 21-year-old daughter Mackynsie McKedy\, on fiddle & vocals\, and 18-year-old son\, Austin McKedy\,  on lead guitar & vocals. The McKedys hometown is McLoud\, Oklahoma. \n\n\n\nWhile chatting with Mackynsie\, I learned some fun facts: Austin McKedy is also a bull rider on the rodeo circuit. He loves it. Mackynsie is a music therapy major in college and the reigning Miss Lincoln County.  She qualified for the Miss Oklahoma Pageant.  \n\n\n\nAll three of the McKedys have solo careers and have several singles on all musical platforms. Both Mackynsie and Austin are represented by Clarksville Creative Sound in Nashville.  \n\n\n\nThe Arcadia Round Barn has been a second home to the McKedy family. They’ve been playing as a family for about 15 years and going to musical jams at the Round Barn for nine years.  Round Barn music director  Joe Baxter said\, “The McKedy kids practically grew up at the Round Barn\, playing here at every opportunity\, honing their skills.” \n\n\n\nThe McKedy Band has won several awards\, including the Oklahoma Country Music Singers Association and the Josie Music Awards. \n\n\n\nSo you like country music? We’ve got your concert right here at the Round Barn on May 18th! \n\n\n\nThe McKedy Band CONCERT DETAILS : \n\n\n\n\nWhen: Sunday\, May 18th @ 1 p.m.\n\n\n\nWhere: Arcadia Round Barn\,  north side  (6 miles east of I-35 on Route 66)\n\n\n\nAdmission: FREE  (donations accepted)\n\n\n\nExtras: Bring a lawn chair or grab a picnic table; the museum is open 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.\n\n\n\n\nFor updates\, call 405-833-1350 or visit the Round Barn’s website.  \n\n\n\n\nDownload Flyer
